New beginnings

#LifeOfAnEditor . #LifeofAnEditorTeacher . Bits & Pieces . Deep Thoughts

This summer has felt like a transition. Ending of the chapter at Miami High School and beginning a new one at Oklahoma Union.

It was a June of finishing the yearbook (last duty of MJHS/MHS) and a July of renewal – art classes and new friends in Eureka Springs, a supper with friends and a small get way at “the family farm” with my cousin.

This summer reminded me of my need to be creative. Be it writing (yes I’m still a wordy girl), or being artsy (watercolor is my new thing). Creative things, as well as reading, feed my soul and make me a better person, spouse and teacher.

This summer I’ve felt a draw to this platform, which has set idle for far too long. I’ve always said everyone has a story, you just have to ask the right questions. So I’ll keep writing for The Joplin Globe, the chamber book publishing company, and other clients (including Ozarks Farm & Neighbor). I’m also going to use this platform as a way to tell stories and share photos – and maybe my art.

So here’s to new beginnings. August seems to be a good time to start.

“This is what God says, the God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through pounding waves, The God who summons horses and chariots and armies— they lie down and then can’t get up; they’re snuffed out like so many candles: “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’ —the coyotes and the buzzards— Because I provided water in the desert, rivers through the sunbaked earth, Drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me.”
